The South County Museum & School of Craft houses and educates visitors on the history of South County, Rhode Island. Check out this page for a really interesting story on the museum.
The museum has been in operation since 1933 and currently houses not only an exciting fiber shed but also a blacksmith forge, wood working barn, print shop, living history farm and event space.
You can see a roster of all their classes in the School of Craft here. Give spinning a try with a drop spindle or sign up for an upcoming course on natural dyes embroidery, weaving or sewing to get started on your fiber journey.
Visit the fiber barn at the museum to learn more about the pre-industrial processing of natural fibers. Artisans will demo historic tools as they process wool from the museum’s sheep. You could also very likely find them tending a tiny flax field or dye garden.
