2026 Fibershed Events

As we continue building the Southeastern New England Fibershed, we’re offering a number of public-facing events so that you can learn more about the important fiber and natural dye work happening all over our region. We’d love to meet you!

Events:

Fiber Literacy: Made In New England: Ocean Hour Farm, Newport, MA, 5pm-6:30pm: What exactly is a fibershed? The easy answer? A geographic region, much like a watershed, where natural fibers are grown, processed, and transformed into textiles and building materials as locally as humanly possible. But in an age of convenience and disposability, how to stress the importance of a fibershed is oftentimes a herculean task. Join SENE Fibershed Director Amy DuFault for a discussion. RSVP here!

Coggeshall Sheep & Wool Festival: Bristol, RI, May 16th, 10am-4pm, Learn about and see demonstrations of sheep shearing, wool processing, dyeing, weaving, and spinning. Shop with vendors and artisans from RI and New England. Visit with the farm’s sheep and see the visiting animals that provide us with the fiber for our craft. Pre-registration is HIGHLY recommended, and tickets may sell out. Rain or Shine!

Member Exhibits:

Museum of Work & Culture’s Rewoven: The Rise, Fall, and Future of American Textiles  exhibit opening: Woonsocket, RI, March 8-May 16 : Members of the SENE Fibershed, are part of the exhibit as well as the Acadiana Fibershed, NY Fibershed, and RISD Sustainability Lab’s really interesting wool creations. Check out a whole fibershed section focusing on regional manufacturing and impacts of the fashion industry on water and soil!

Second Chances (Fiber Arts exhibit by Fiber Fusion): Falmouth, MA, March 5-June15: Featuring SENE members from the Falmouth Art Center Fiber Group. Second Chances seeks to expand the definition of fiber art by integrating unexpected materials and methods that create unique works of art that are outside the scope of those normally expected in the genre.
