Slough Farm on Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard is home to a diverse family of heritage breed animals. At Slough Farm, the fields are filled with cows, sheep, goats, chickens, guinea hens, bees, and a few piglets. They dedicate time, thought, and sweat to a rotational grazing program that uses the cycle of grazing animals to regenerate healthy soil and thriving sandplain grassland ecology.
The farm raises Tunis sheep and processes their wool into yarn most specifically for weaving but also knitting as well as batting for felting/ dying. They also sell registered breeding stock.
As a new addition to an island community of thriving small-scale farms, Slough Farm seeks to play their part by supporting the existing network of farmers and agriculture-driven organizations. They have also begun operating programs that include a 4H squad, lectures & workshops, field trips and farm education for local schoolkids, as well as sharing their space with other local and international charitable organizations.
