Onion Dye Studio was founded by Katie Warren in 2023 as a bridge between regenerative food systems and art. By collecting onion skins and other food scraps from grocery stores, restaurants, compost piles, and friends, food waste is diverted from landfills and turned into a beautiful source of color. Katie is an urban farmer, artist and educator from Cleveland, Ohio. Now based in Somerville, Massachusetts, Onion Dye Studio partners with local art centers and community spaces to lead workshops on natural dyeing with food scraps and foraged plants.
