Hilltop Farm & Fiber Arts + SENE Fibershed Natural Dye Farm Tour & Dye Workshop

Hilltop Farm & Fiber Arts is hosting a farm walk and natural dye workshop for the Southeastern New England Fibershed on Saturday, August 23, from 10 AM to 3 PM (or when finished), and we’d love for you to join!

RSVP here!

Morning: Farm Walk

• Walk the farm to see the dye gardens, including perennials and annuals that thrive in Zone 5b.

• Learn about the colors each plant produces—what lasts, what fades, and cultivation tips.

• The ground is uneven and hilly—please wear sturdy shoes or boots (no open-toed shoes), and bring a walking stick if needed.

Lunch Break

• Bring your own lunch, snacks, and drinks (water provided).

• We’ll have a 30-minute lunch break on the deck with a great view of the Route 8 corridor to Vermont.

Afternoon: Hands-On Dyeing

• Pick flowers in bloom & other available dye plant materials to create eco-printed samplers on silk and cotton to take home

• Feel free to bring a 12×12 or smaller piece of pre-mordanted fabric for additional experiments. In August, there is always the possibility of a leftover indigo vat being available as well.

What Hilltop Farm & Fiber Arts Will Provide:

• Pre-mordanted silk and cotton fabrics

• Buckets, shears, and access to available dye plants

• A shaded/dry area for working

• Equipment for steaming
